BabyCentre's annual Mums' picks survey has revealed brands such as
Maxi-Cosi, Ella's Kitchen, MAM and Tesco are among UK parents' first choice when
it comes to essential baby buys.
Over 3000 mums were asked to rate baby products in 13 different
categories including disposable nappies, car seats, highchairs and travel
systems.
Maxi-Cosi continues its winning streak from the last two years by
achieving four of the top five best car seats suitable from birth. Maxi-Cosi is
popular with many celebrities, including A-list dads Jamie Dornan, Ronnie Wood
and Louis Tomlinson, who each opted for one of the brand's car seats last
year.
While these British super-dads are helping to maintain Maxi-Cosi's
popularity, Hollywood power couple Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher also seem to be
influencing the UK market. It's their preferred brand Britax that wins the next
stage car seat category.
UPPAbaby has secured the top two spots in the travel systems
category, proving itself as a firm favourite among new parents. It's possible
that social media pioneer and UPPAbaby user Mark Zuckerberg, whose baby turned
one last month, has something to do with the brand's rising
popularity.
Celebrity parents have an undoubted influence over new and expecting
mums and dads. The iCandy Peach, which features in four Mums' picks 2017
categories, is favoured by sports superstar Sir Andy Murray and his wife Kim.
The couple had their first child in 2016.
Mum favourite MAM has secured the number one spot in our bottle
sterilisers category. BabyCentre mums also chose the MAM Microwave Steam
Steriliser as the best steriliser for all five of our attribute categories:
looks, ease of use, quality, value for money and space-saving.
This year's survey saw the introduction of four new categories:
nursery retailer, family supermarket, disposable nappies and baby food.
Mothercare wins nursery retailer, with department store giants John Lewis and
Amazon tailing just behind.
The increasing popularity of low-cost supermarkets is reflected in
their results as Aldi Mamia is chosen as mums' preferred brand of nappy for
2017. However, it's Tesco that claim the honour of most popular supermarket.
More BabyCentre mums choose the grocery giant for their family shop than
anywhere else.
There's never been a more health-conscious generation of parents than
there is now, and this shows in the baby food brands that BabyCentre mums have
picked as their favourites. Every brand in the top five are shunning additives
in favour of hand-picked, high quality ingredients – an approach to baby food
that's clearly working! It's Ella's Kitchen, a company that prides itself on
being 100% organic, that secures first place.
Much-loved brand Medela has dominated the Mums' picks 2017 breast
pump category, securing four of the top five products. Medela is also in the
number one spot for breast pumps that are space-saving, attractive, easy to use
and value for money.
The Ikea Antilop and Stokke Tripp Trapp highchairs have become modern
classics, as parents are drawn to their clean and simple designs. Although
Stokke was top last year, Ikea has reclaimed the number one position in their
Mum's picks 2017 charts.
This year's top five changing bags see sleek and simple designs
popular with the public. Ultimately, floral and feminine designs have won out as
Cath Kidston and Pink Lining claim the top two places.
Sarah Redshaw, managing editor at BabyCentre, said: "Shopping for
baby products can be really overwhelming for new and expecting parents. There
are so many brands on the market all claiming to be the best that it can be
difficult to know what to choose. Mums' picks offers mums and dads a helping
hand when it comes to those tricky decisions about what to buy and where to
shop."
