Canada Prime Minister: Junkfood Commercials Targeting Kids Should be Banned

Junk food is an attractive part of every child's life. No matter how campaigns are being initiated to promote healthy food choices especially for children, it is still undeniable that kids and adults are still attracted to the inviting advertisements on TV.

An article in PLOS mentioned that the new Prime Minister of Canada gave orders to his members and set a new and interesting goal for Dr Jane Philpott, the new Minister of Health. There
were a lot of things mentioned in the order: goals and other concerns
were set. Note that most of these are beneficial to the public's health.

One of which is "Promote public health by:  increasing vaccination rates; introducing
new restrictions on the commercial marketing of unhealthy food and
beverages to children, similar to those now in place in Quebec;
bringing in tougher regulations to eliminate trans fats and to reduce
salt in processed foods, similar to those in the United States; and
improving food labels to give more information on added sugars and
artificial dyes in processed foods".

Banning the advertising and marketing of
junk foods for kids is a good start. This is just a starting point and
people wish that this kind of restriction would not only target the kids
but it should be directed to adults as well. Some people said that it
should be even considered to ban the marketing of this type of food
altogether.

Most people think that when
advertisement of junk food is on TV, it makes them want to go out and
buy it. Surprisingly, this could be true. Junkfood Commercials also lead
to too much consumption of food or overating. While these commercials
are on TV, people tend to munch on more food as well.

Junkfood will exist, and it should be allowed to exist.  But there is no reason why our society needs unrestricted food ads in popular media.
